Sacred Spaces:

2025

Growing up in a community filled with public art, I was surrounded by visual narratives that reflected the culture, struggles, and resilience of my people. This thesis is a photographic exploration of two symbolic symbols of Chicano heritage: murals and the Virgin Mary. Taken across East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, and Lincoln Heights, these photographs document spaces where public art serves as both a historical record and an expression of cultural identity. By documenting these spaces, I honor the artists and everyday people who keep our history alive in the streets we call home.
